Samsung shipped 2.7 cr smartphones in 2023
Garnered 21% market share in 5G category; launches Galaxy A55 5G, A35 5G in Hyd

Hyderabad: South Korean consumer electronics brand Samsung on Wednesday announced the launch of Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G, in the city. During the launch, Samsung highlighted the growing demand for 5G phones in India. The smartphone maker, in the 5G segment, witnessed growth on the lines of the industry at 64 per cent in 2023.
Speaking on the sideline of the launch, Ghufran Alam, Senior Director, MX Business, Samsung India said that 5G has been one of the factors driving growth in sales of mobile phones last year.
“In our total portfolio of smartphones, 75 per cent of the devices are going to be 5G phones this year. We have launched 16 5G smart phones in 2023 and in this year we have launched eight 5G phones till now. Samsung has garnered 21 per cent market share in the total 5G category.”
Citing reports released by analysts, Alam said that the smartphone industry shipped 150 million (15 crore) devices in 2023 of which Samsung registered a share of 18 per cent (2.7 crore units) in shipments. The mobile phone industry’s contribution, in shipment (volumes), under the 5G segment stands at 52 per cent.

The sales of Rs 30,000 and above segment of smart phones grew at 65 per cent last year, while in the same category, Samsung’s growth has been 74 per cent, driven by A Series,” Alam added.
Samsung’s line of smartphones is available from a price range of Rs 8,650, which goes upward to over Rs 1 lakh. The brand has 24 exclusive stores in Hyderabad, 58 in Telangana, and 2,000 across India. Samsung phones have its presence across two lakh stores (multi brand outlets) in India.
